It's later than you think ... just 21 days to the end of Spring Term!
What did you do at school today?

Best school ... 'What did you do at school today?' It's a question parents often ask. What an unusual reply Mums and Dads heard recently. 'We're designing our new multi-million pound school.' And it is true. Willowfield School students were called in by council architects to design the way they would most like their school to be. There's a newspaper story here. More photos here and here, and here.

Students and staff in an amazing struggle

By Sports Reporter | Yesterday 2149
But surprise, surprise, Shovon's has closed the gap again and is only two points behind Mr Hemingway now!

There's an old saying about grownups and students chasing the same goal. Don't send a boy on a man's errand, it goes.

But in fantasy footie at Willowfield School, the men had better beware because student, unswervable Shovon Malik, just won't let our Deputy-Headteacher get far ahead.

Last week, Mr Hemingway had leaped forward eight points, which in our game is a long way in front of his nearest rival, Year 8's Shovon.

But surprise, surprise, Shovon's has closed the gap again and is only two points behind Mr Hemingway now!

It's been a stunning battle between Mr Hemingway and Shovon, and while I would have said that our Deputy Headteacher is bound to win, now I am very far from sure.

It wouldn't be quite so surprising perhaps if Shovon was one of your senior students. But Shovon is in Year 8!

He's been at high school for only just over a year, or to put it another way round, only a little over a year ago, he was a primary school pupil! Read all about it on the student news pages. »»

Before Willowfield School's new building begins, the council calls in our bright young things for ideas

Students aid council's school planners

By Year 10 Reporter
The ideas were really very good. I have to say I felt very proud of our imaginative students.

Willowfield School students have received a big pat on the back for their imaginative ideas for the our new school.

The local newspaper, Waltham Forest Guardian, said our students made models of their ideas for our new multi-million pound school at the local council's Assembly Hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow.

Model student ... This good design won our student a photo in the neighbourhood paper.

Reporter Ms Mhairi Macfarlane said, 'The specialist humanities school is looking to relocate to a new-build under Waltham Forest Council's £300m Building Schools for the Future scheme.'

Headteacher Ms Wilson said, 'We spent two exhausting days on the modelling.

'The ideas were really very good. I have to say I felt very proud of our imaginative students.'

Theh building plan has suffered some hiccups over recent years, but Ms Macfarlane said that the current date for completion of the new Willowfield School is 2012 or 2013.

Goodbye, swine flu

The National Pandemic Flu Service, set up to offer online and telephone assessments, has now closed, the NHS swine flu website reports.

'The decline in swine flu cases means the service is no longer needed, although it can be reinstated within seven days if a new wave of infections emerges.

'People showing swine flu symptoms are now advised to stay at home and contact their GP, who will be able to assess them,' the NHS advises. 'If appropriate, patients will be offered antiviral medication and vaccination jabs.'
