This year Willowfield students are making a difference to our school and local community environment in an attempt to win the new Waltham Forest Borough 'Go Green Award'...

Here's our work so far...
When our club first started in October '09 we carried out an environmental survey of our school to decide on the themes we would work on Click Here to see what we found...

We decided to work on 'Litter & Recycling' for Theme 2 and 'Biodiversity' for Theme 3.

Reduce, Re-use and Recycle

The ever-busy Go Green team were recently visited by some helpers from 'Eco-Active' who came to Willowfield in October to re launch our campaign to reduce litter, reuse waste and recycle the rest.

They led activities to make us all see just how much damage we can do to our planet if we waste our resources. All the Go Green members from year 8 and 9 then learnt how to make wallets or purses out of old drink cartons!

It was such a success that our group wants to do more of this with the bottles and cartons from the canteen...

So while we set about making recycling and reusing more easy here at Willowfield.

Lets all try to keep Willowfield Tidy!

The Grand Go Green Premiere!

Click here to have a look at the short film that has been produced as a collaborative project between Mr Burvill’s Go Green team and Miss Evans’ Film Making Club.

This is a project to raise awareness about the environment and what we should be doing to improve our school, local and global environment.

The Go Greeners have devised ‘promises’ which they would like all of the students and staff to follow and which are shown by our All Star cast of students (and Mr Burvill!) in the film. The film aims to be a light hearted way of sending some very important messages about our environment.

Also, the film supports the work that your tutor groups have done for our school’s Eco Code which will be on display in the foyer in front of the main hall and being judged on Thursday and Friday of this week. So make sure you visit the display to see all the brilliant work that has been produced.

Miss Evans would like to thank all involved. “The two clubs worked extremely hard on this project, which was devised, scripted, acted, directed and filmed by the students. Special thanks to Aadil in Y9 who worked tirelessly to complete the editing of the film”.

We really hope you enjoy it and that you help us follow our Go Green promises!

Go Green Tidy Britain Day

The ever-busy Go-Green Club helped spread the message of a tidy school and a tidy Britain on Thursday 17th June.

With a stall in the playground, students were encouraged to pick up any litter in the playground with the help of our wonderful volunteers. Students were even given a badge if they agreed to not drop litter for the day.

The school remained so clean that it was a noticeably nicer place to be! A year 9 was heard saying, "I sometimes drop litter but it does look a lot nicer today so maybe I won't anymore!"

Remember - keep up our Go Green promises and we'll have a 'Greener School'!

Coming soon… the Go Green team have collaborated brilliantly with the Film Making Club and their joint project of a film of their Go Green Promises will soon be seen on a plasma screen near you! Look out for star appearances from students and another cameo from Mr Burvill!
