Welcome to the Work Related Learning Page.

At Willowfield Humanities College, all pupils have access to a range of activities and services that help to prepare them for the world of work in the future.
Every student will study about how their choices can affect their careers, and what careers are available to them during their citizenship lessons. Students also find out about how to manage their own money.

Careers activities
We also run some very specific events to help teach our students about careers.

In year 9 all pupils take part in an industry day, where people from companies and the public sector come in to give our students a taste of what they could expect if they were to take up a career in a certain field.
We have a wide range of different employers for our students, ranging from the Army to the Zoological society of London.

Mrs Westerby - Work Related Learning Support Officer
In year 10 all students take part in a two week work experience programme. Our students spend two weeks in a real workplace of their choice where they learn new skills and find out just what it is like to have a full time job.

The year 11s have a mock interview day where they are given a job interview by real employers. Students are given guidance in how to prepare in advance and dress up in suitable business attire to face the pressures of a simulated job interview.

Careers advice
All of our students have meetings with our careers advisor to discuss what they may like to do once they have left school and what they need to start to do to achieve their goals and ambitions for the future. The careers advisor sees all pupils in year 11 and 10 and some in year 9. She is also available to all pupils in drop-in sessions in the library at lunchtimes on the last Thursday of the month.

Trips and Visits
To help promote further and higher education to our students we also offer additional trips and visits for students to events organised by AimHigher. These often include weekend trips to universities to take part in activities and lessons that the school cannot provide. These help to motivate students and show them the things that they may be able to do if they choose to go to university.
