These pages offer an opportunity for students to exhibit much of the wide variety of work undertaken in the Art Department. It provides a virtual gallery space where parents can view students work and this opportunity to exhibit is in turn an incentive for students to aim high and raise achievement.
 
The Art department aims to develop creativity, a wide range of specialist skills, and a broad knowledge and understanding of the role of Art and Design in our own and other cultures. Through the study of visual language students also become critical consumers of the media and understand how images can influence perception and opinion. media and techniques including 
 
Students at all levels are encouraged to recognise the importance of the specialism within art through local community links and the study of other peoples beliefs and symbolism through art, craft and design.
 
At KS3 students build a broad range of skills including Drawing, painting, printing, textiles, 3D techniques and ceramics. The range of themes covered aims to inspire and motivate boys and girls to engage with and achieve in the subject. At KS4 they can opt. for The Art and Design GCSE or the vocational BTEC course introduced this year. Student’s strengths are recognised and they are encouraged and advised on the course most suited to them.
 
This year has seen the launch of the BTEC course which began with 10 students winning the ‘Best Class Response’ award in the Open house Architecture competition. They were able to work with architects and visit a significant building related to their brief.
 
Y9 students all participated in a project brief set by the Commission for Equality and Human Rights creating artwork to convey ideas about a their vision of what the world would look like if we lived without prejudice. Out of 1712 entries nationally 2 Willowfield students were selected in the 100 finalists. Congratulations to Sahara Williams and Bradley Dew.
