Willowfield Humanities College is a neighbourhood 11-16 comprehensive school which admits 120 girls and boys to Year 7 each year.
Our ambition is to be the best possible school we can be: to provide the best possible opportunities and outcomes for our students and to be the first choice of all the families living near us.

'There's a good mixture of cultures and languages.' Year 8 student

         'My children like school.' Parent

'It's a well respected school.' Year 9 parent

We are popular and oversubscribed and almost all our students live within half a mile of our school. This means that our school reflects the diversity of the population of the local area. We welcome children of all abilities including the exceptionally able and those with learning difficulties.
Our school is richly diverse culturally and ethnically - between us we speak more than 30 languages!

Our results over a number of years show that all our students make very good progress regardless of their starting points and our students tell us that they like their school and are proud to come here.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us. Whatever your reason for doing so, I hope you find the information here helpful. Please do make contact with us if you need further details or would like to visit us.

"This is a Good School"
Ofsted 2012

Willowfield has recently received the Ofsted report for our January 2012 inspection and we are delighted with the outcome.

The Inspectors spent two days in the school, visited 27 lessons with 27 different teachers and met with governors, staff and students. They also considered 111 responses to the parental questionnaire and 100 replies to the student questionnaire as well as looking at samples of students work.
After analysing all the evidence the Inspectors graded the school as good in the four areas of
  • Achievement of Pupils
  • Quality of Teaching
  • Behaviour and Safety of Pupils
  • Leadership and Management
This led to the school being judged as good for its overall effectiveness. Please take the opportunity to read the full report accessible from the link below,

or as given to you in print form by your son or daughter. However if it is not a convenient time for you to do now here are a few headlines.

"Most striking is the culture of mutual respect and support amongst its exceptionally diverse community".

"Students make good progress".

"Students with special educational needs do better than similar students nationally".

"Teaching is good overall".

"Students, parents and carers are rightly confident that the college is a safe environment".

The report finishes by confirming that since our last inspection in 2007 the school has made substantial improvements and that the capacity for further improvement is good.

Thanks go to all the staff (teaching and non-teaching, past and present) for all the work that went into achieving this outcome. But the final accolade must go to the Willowfield students who were a credit to themselves, their families and the school throughout the 2 days of the inspection.
